Johann Christoph Lischka (Czech January Kristof Liska * to 1650 in Breslau , † 23. August 1712 in Leubus in Silesia ) was a painter of the Baroque .

Life

There are contradicting information about Johann Christoph Lischka's year of birth. He came from the Moravian noble family von Rottenwald. His father was an Imperial Austrian court agent in Breslau, but soon died. Lischka's mother Helena Regina married the painter Michael Willmann in 1662 . Lischka became a student of his stepfather and undertook study trips to Italy with his support from 1674 to 1680. Between 1689 and 1708 he worked in Prague and other places in Bohemia , where he was referred to as the "young Willmann". After Willmann's death in 1706, he took over his workshop in Leubus Monastery . His clients were mainly Cistercian monasteries and other church institutions. In addition to numerous large altar and wall paintings , he also made drawings as templates for copper engravings . After Lischka's death, his friend Wenzel Lorenz Reiner completed several works he had started.
