George Timothy Bock ( Russian Георгий Тимофеевич Бок * September 24 jul. / 6. October  1818 greg. , † May 31 jul. / 12. June  1876 greg. On Castle Schwerin ) was a Baltic German Vice Admiral in the Imperial Russian Navy .

Life

family

Georg was a member of the Baltic noble family Bock adH Lachmes . His parents were the Russian cavalry master of the guard hussars and dissident Timotheus Eberhard von Bock (1787-1836) and the Estonian coachman's daughter Catharina Mättik († 1862). In 1847 he wed Anna Ignatjew (1824-1916), daughter of the Russian major general Dmitri Ignatjew. The marriage resulted in a daughter and two sons.

Career

At the age of 10, Bock joined a naval corps. In 1833 he was promoted to guard and in 1835 to Mitschman . At first he served in the Black Sea Fleet but was soon transferred to the Baltic Fleet , where he was promoted to lieutenant in the sea in 1841 . He took part in an overseas campaign in the Mediterranean and off the coasts of England from 1845 to 1847 . He then became Senior Adjutant at the General Staff of Naval Headquarters and Head of Inspection at the Naval Ministry. After he had received his promotion to lieutenant captain in 1851, Bock was used as a commander in the Gulf of Finland . In 1856, or perhaps not until 1858, he became captain of the 2nd rank and in 1859 and 1860, respectively, the captain of the 1st rank and transferred as such to the reserve .

Bock had been the teacher of Princes Alexander and Vladimir since 1862, with whom he constantly traveled to Russia and other European countries, especially Sweden and Italy , from 1867 to 1869 . He became a wing adjutant in 1865 and was promoted to rear admiral in 1866 . In 1872 he became court master of the Grand Duke Vladimir and in 1876 was promoted to vice admiral.

He was the holder of the St. Anna Order II. Class and the St. Vladimir Order IV. And III. Class.
