George of Owstin

Georg Bogislav Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm von Owstin (born April 27, 1788 in Thurow , Anklam district , † March 7, 1868 in Stettin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Georg was the son of the Prussian captain and lord of Thurow Hans Friedrich Wilhelm von Owstin (1747-1801) and his wife Juliana Albertine Beate, born von Calbow (1753-1795).

Military career

Owstin visited the Berlin Cadet House and was employed on April 1, 1804 as a private corporal in the "von Owstin" infantry regiment of the Prussian Army , whose chief was his relative Carl Philipp von Owstin . He was promoted in June 1806 Ensign , fell during the following Fourth Coalition War in the Battle of Lübeck wounded in captivity and was on 1807 half-pay set.

On August 4, 1810 Owstin was promoted to secondary lieutenant with a patent from June 27, 1808 and in 1811 assigned to the labor brigade in Pomerania. On May 12, 1812, he was aggregated to the Colberg Infantry Regiment and assigned there on October 8, 1812. During the Wars of Liberation Owstin took part in the sieges of Wittenberg, Landrecies, Philippeville and Givet as well as in the battles at Großgörschen and Bautzen , where he earned the Iron Cross II. Class. He also fought in the battles near Halle and Colditz.

By the beginning of December 1818 Owstin rose to captain and company commander . On August 19, 1834, with a patent dated August 20, 1834, he became a regular major and received the Order of St. Vladimir IV class on June 8, 1838 . On March 30, 1844 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in mid-September 1845 with the Red Eagle Order III. Excellent with a bow. He was promoted to colonel on March 27, 1847 with the command of the 4th Infantry Regiment and on January 13, 1848, Owstin was appointed regimental commander.

On July 25, 1848 he was in command of the Königsberg Fortress and at the same time the 4th Infantry Regiment aggregated . Under awarding of the character as a major general Owstin received on 12 March 1853 his farewell with a pension . He died on March 7, 1868 in Szczecin.

family

Owstin married Pauline Luise Adelheid Charlotte von Radecke (1816–1871) in Stettin on July 31, 1835. The daughter Maria Karoline Henriette Adolfine Juliane (1845-1852) emerged from the marriage.
