Carl Philipp von Owstin (born October 15, 1736 in Quilow , † November 26, 1811 in Stettin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

Carl Philipp was a son of Berndt Christoph von Owstin (* 1703, † August 4, 1768 in Quilow), Herr auf Quilow, Polzin, Menzelin, Petzkow and Vitense and his wife Anna Maria Friederica, born von Flotow (* August 7, 1705 ; † May 7, 1739).

Military career

At the age of fourteen Owstin joined the "Bevern on foot" regiment in Stettin as a junker . During the Seven Years' War was coming to the battle of lobositz for Ensign promoted. He took part in the Battle of Prague and was promoted to Second Lieutenant after the Battle of Kolin . In 1758 he moved with the Prussian troops of General von Manteuffel to Swedish Pomerania , where he was present during the conquest of Anklam and the capture of the Peenemünder Schanzen. In 1759 he was transferred to a grenadier battalion as a prime lieutenant and was shot through the hand in the battle of Kunersdorf . In 1762 he became a staff captain . After the battle of Freiberg he took part in the expedition to Franconia under General von Kleist.

In Stettin he became company commander in 1764 and battalion commander as major in 1771 . During the War of the Bavarian Succession , he was summoned to Bohemia with Prince Heinrich's army in 1778 and returned to Stettin the following year. In 1781 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1783 to colonel . In the meantime Owstin had become the commander of his regiment and received the order Pour le Mérite at the review on June 4, 1789 . The following year, King made him Friedrich Wilhelm II. The chief of the regiment, which he commanded until then. When the mobilization took place on May 23, 1790, Owstin was then a brigadier in the army in Silesia and was finally promoted to major general on August 17, 1790 . On behalf of the absent General von Pirch, Owstin acted from February 9, 1793 to January 16, 1796 as leader of the Pomeranian inspection of the infantry and in the meantime became lieutenant general on New Year's Day 1796 . On June 4, 1796 and May 28, 1798 at the revue in Stargard , he was awarded the Great Red Eagle Order .

In 1805 he moved with the regiment to Hanover and from there to Saxony . In 1806 he returned with part of the regiment to Stettin, where he received the Order of the Black Eagle in March . During the French invasion in the same year, it was no longer used because of its old age. On September 26, 1807 dimittierte it with a pension of 1200 thalers . He stayed in Stettin until the end of his life and was buried in the family crypt in Quilow.

Owstin was married to Dorothea Elisabeth Ulrich (* January 8, 1745 - February 1, 1775), divorced von Brause , in his first marriage since December 15, 1769 . After her death, he married Christiane Sophie Friederike von Gundlach on July 21, 1780 in Leizen (* December 9, 1749, † June 18, 1829). The following children emerged from the marriages:
