George Mullen

George Mullen (born May 7, 1974 in Vienna , Austria ) is an art historian , gallery owner and auctioneer .

Life

George Mullen was born in Vienna and grew up in England , Austria and France . He is the oldest of six siblings. He spent the first ten years of his life on an estate near Oxford . For professional reasons, the family returned to Vienna in 1984, where Mullen attended grammar school. Between the ages of 14 and 16 he went to boarding school in England, but he obtained his Matura at the Schottengymnasium in Austria. He was interested in auctioning at an early age ; Even as a teenager, he worked at Christie's auction house during the holidays . In addition to studying art history at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College , which he began in 1996 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999 , he learned furniture restoration in Great Britain . Between 1995 and 1998 he studied at the University of St. Gallen .

After completing his studies, Mullen initially worked in the financial industry in various managerial capacities at UBS Group AG in Zurich , Geneva , Frankfurt and London , most recently as Associate Director at GAM AG . From December 2002 to June 2003 he held the position of managing director of the Vienna branch of Christie's as a parental leave representative. In August 2003 he moved to the Vienna auction house Dorotheum , where he worked as a customer advisor and sporadically as an auctioneer until September 2006. From January 2010 to November 2012 he ran the Bellechasse Gallery in Paris . He was also the curator of the Guerrand-Hermès Collection in Paris and, from April 2008 to December 2009, Director of Design at Castello di Reschio in Perugia , Italy .

In 2012 he took over the management of the Bonhams representative office in Austria from April to July . From June 2013 to January 2014 he managed the Lempertz branch there . Since 2015 he has been employed as a freelance expert and auctioneer at the livestream auction house Auctionata in Berlin .

Mullen reached a wider audience through his appearances as an art and antiques expert in the ZDF television series Bares for Rares , of which he has occasionally been a member of the team of experts since the sixth season 2015/16. In the NDR - entertainment show Who offers more? he appeared as a dealer in 2016. In the junk quiz show Clever Staubt , which started in 2017 , he served as an expert at Steven Gätjen's side in several episodes . In 2018, Mullen acted as an expert in the series Stadt, Land, Haus on broadcasting Berlin-Brandenburg .

George Mullen speaks five languages ​​and lives today (2016) in Berlin.
