George Stephanopoulos

George Robert Stephanopoulos (born February 10, 1961 in Fall River , Massachusetts ) is an American journalist and political advisor. He is the main presenter of ABC News , replacing Diane Sawyer .

Stephanopoulos became known as the communications director for presidential candidate Bill Clinton during the 1992 election campaign . After Clinton's election victory, Stephanopoulos became " White House Communications Director " and later policy and strategy advisor. In December 1996, he left government service. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations .

Life

Stephanopoulos has Greek roots. His father was a priest for the Greek Orthodox Church in New York City, and his mother was the long-time director of the national news agency of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America .

Stephanopoulos attended Orange High School in Pepper Pike, an affluent suburb of Cleveland . At Columbia University he studied political science , received a Harry S. Truman Scholarship and was the second best of his class when he graduated (Bachelor 1982). In 2001 he married actress Alexandra Wentworth . The two have two daughters; the family lives in Manhattan . In 2013, he played himself in the TV series House of Cards .

Donate to the Clinton Foundation

In 2012, 2013, and 2014, Stephanopoulos donated $ 25,000 each to the Clinton Foundation but did not inform his employer, ABC News. After Politico discussed the donations in May 2015, Stephanopoulos stated that the foundation had reported its donations and that he thought that was sufficient. The month before, Stephanopoulos, as a guest of Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, had stated that if you give money to the Clinton Foundation, everyone knows that there is hope that it will somehow pay off.
