With the Equipment and Machine Noise Protection Ordinance (32nd BImSchV), Directive 2000/14 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of May 8, 2000 on the harmonization of the legal provisions of the member states on environmentally harmful noise emissions from equipment and machines intended for use outdoors was in German Implemented right. It was issued as Article 1 of the Ordinance introducing the Equipment and Machine Noise Protection Ordinance and replaced the previous lawnmower noise ordinance ( 8th BImSchV), the construction machinery noise ordinance (15th BImSchV) and other regulations.

The 32nd BImSchV regulates the operational possibilities of 57 outdoor devices named in the annex of the ordinance and the associated environmentally harmful noise emissions. The 57 different types of equipment and machines, from construction machines to gardening tools, in the Appendix are defined again in Appendix I of the corresponding Directive 2000/14 / EC.

In addition to the equipment and machine noise protection regulations also apply Noise and Vibration Occupational Safety Regulation and the Machinery Directive .

Section 3 regulates the upper limits of the sound power level (maximum sound emissions in dB (A)) of the 57 device types. The limit values guaranteed by the manufacturer can be found in Art. 12 of Directive 2000/14 / EC. Ten dBA units mean a tenfold increase in sound pressure .
