Gerald Klews (born April 4, 1972 ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Gerald Klews played in his youth for the Berlin clubs Westend 01 Berlin and SC Siemensstadt before he switched to the amateurs of Hamburger SV . In 1992 he moved to Hertha BSC in the 2nd Bundesliga . At first he could under Bernd Stange there not prevail. However, when he was replaced by Günter Sebert after a failed start to the season , Klews made his first appearances in the second division. At the end of the season he had played in 25 league games. In the same season, the Hertha amateurs surprisingly reached the DFB Cup final . In front of 76,000 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium , Klews could not prevent the final from being lost 1-0 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Despite two coach changes - Sebert was replaced by Uwe Reinders and Karsten Heine after five months - Gerald Klews fought for a place in the first team and played 27 games. However, Hertha only ended the season in 11th place. In 1994/95 Klews lost his regular place and only made five appearances, none of which went the full distance.

Therefore, in the summer of 1995, he moved to 1. FC Union Berlin , which competed under Hans Meyer in the Regionalliga Nordost . Under Meyer and in the further course of the season under Eckhard Krautzun , Frank Vogel and Karsten Heine, Klews was an absolute regular player and played 33 of 34 games. However, the possible promotion was missed in second place behind Tennis Borussia Berlin . In 1996/97 the Köpenicker took 5th place again, not the targeted 1st place, which Energie Cottbus took. After the hoped-for engagement at Ipswich Town did not come true , Klews forced the change to the second division promoted to Cottbus after the season by taking sick leave and no longer showing up for training at Union.

At Energie Cottbus' first participation in the 2nd Bundesliga, an 8th place jumped out in 1997/98 . Klews came to 24 missions under Eduard Geyer . But already in the following season Klews only played in the first two games and was handed over to SV Babelsberg 03 during the winter break . With the Potsdam team , Klews was able to celebrate relegation in the third-class Regionalliga Nordost .

After the end of the season, Klews moved to the north season at VfB Oldenburg . However, he left the club during the winter break after bankruptcy proceedings were opened and went to league rivals Holstein Kiel . The 1999/2000 season ended Holstein in eighth place, but as the qualification was missed the new two-track regional league. So Kiel entered the fourth-class Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga , which they won and so met the season winner from Lower Saxony / Bremen, Göttingen 05 , in the promotion games. Although Kiel lost 3-0 in the second leg after a 2-0 win in the first leg, they moved up for Göttingen, which was not granted a license for the Regionalliga.

After the rise, Klews signed a contract with VfL Halle 96 , which played in the NOFV-Oberliga Süd . But already after half a season he went to the north relay for the Berlin AK 07 . After relegation, he turned his back on the BAK and returned as a player- coach for FC Lausitz Hoyerswerda in the southern season. Although the league was missed with 18th place, Lausitz Hoyerswerda went with him into the new season. But already in the winter break Klews left Hoyerswerda because of outstanding salary claims.

Then Gerald Klews played for a year at SC Gatow and half a season at 1. FC Wilmersdorf before ending his playing career in summer 2005.
