Gerd Biegel

Gerd Biegel (born May 26, 1947 in Mannheim ) is a German historian . He was director of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum and is the founding director of the Institute for Braunschweigische Regionalgeschichte at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Gerd Biegel studied history , German , prehistory and early history , archeology and art history at the University of Cologne from 1967 to 1972 and graduated in 1972 with an MA . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Cologne and until 1979 research assistant and head of the coin cabinet at the historical museums of the city of Cologne .

On May 15, 1979, he took over the post of Director at the Museum of Prehistory and Early History of the city of Freiburg . In addition, from 1980 he was the city's cultural advisor. On August 1, 1986, Biegel succeeded Rolf Hagen as director of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, which he held until the end of 2008. During his time at the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, the Lower Saxony state exhibition Heinrich the Lion and His Time (1995) and the exhibition Troy - Dream and Reality (2001) took place there.

On January 1st, 2009 he was appointed director of the newly founded Institute for Braunschweigische Regionalgeschichte at the TU. The main focus of his research and publications is the history of Braunschweig.
