Gerhard Baustian

Gerhard Baustian (born January 19, 1927 in Lübz , † December 9, 1988 in Strausberg ) was a German major general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic .

Life and career

Gerhard Baustian was born into a working-class family in Lübz, Parchim district. There he passed his Abitur and from 1941 to 1944 learned the trade of a metal aircraft manufacturer . In 1944 he briefly joined the Reich Labor Service , was drafted into the Wehrmacht that same year and at the end of the war was a private in the Air Force.

After the war, he worked as a mechanic in Parchim until 1947 , after which he took part in a training course for vocational school teachers until 1948, worked as an office clerk until 1949 and was finally head of the state-owned registration and acquisition company Parchim until 1952 .

Military career

Education and Uses

Gerhard Baustian joined the armed organs of the GDR as a volunteer applicant on February 21, 1952 and was briefly a student at the VP office in Pirna.

From 1952 to 1954, G. Baustian was a main subject teacher at the Aviation Technical School in Kamenz, which later became the OHS of the LSK / LV . There he became a candidate of the SED and in 1953 he became a member of the SED.

In 1954 he became chief engineer in the 3rd command of the 2nd Aero Club and in 1956 chain commander of a flying unit in the 3rd Air Division. From 1957 to 1959 Gerhard Baustian was deployed as a squadron commander in Fliegerausbildungsgeschwader 2 (FAG-2) and then appointed commander of this squadron until 1960 . This was followed by a subsequent assignment until 1961 as a deputy for flight training FAG-3. From 1961 to 1962 he was the deputy for aviation training at the flying school at Bautzen airfield , which later became the officers' college for military aviators , and at the end of 1962 he worked briefly as commander m. d. F. b. this school.

From 1962 to 1963, G. Baustian was again deputy for aviation training at the Bautzen Aviation School.

In 1963, G. Baustian was transferred to the LSK / LV command in Strausberg and assigned to the deputy chief LSK / LV for air forces as head of combat training (A-3). Until 1967 he was appointed to the prominent top service position as deputy chief LSK / LV for air forces .

From 1968 to 1970 he was then delegated to the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Soviet Armed Forces for general staff training .

Service as a general

After his return, Colonel Baustian was again deputy chief LSK / LV for air forces in the LSK / LV command from 1970 to 1978 . On March 1, 1973, he was appointed major general.

From 1978 to 1984 he was last employed as a deputy for flight and skydiving training at the central board of the Society for Sport and Technology . GenMaj Baustian retired on November 30, 1984.
