Gerhard Haszprunar

Gerhard Haszprunar (born February 25, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian zoologist and professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , director of the Munich State Zoological Collection and General Director of the Bavarian State Natural Science Collections .

Life

Gerhard Haszprunar grew up in Vienna, where he graduated from high school in 1975 . He was a pupil of the college Kalksburg (from 1856 to 1993 led by the Jesuit order). From 1975 to 1976 he did his military service , where he was trained as a militia officer . From 1976 to the beginning of 1982 he studied zoology and botany at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctoratesub auspiciis ” at the end of 1982 . From 1982 to 1987 he worked as a contract assistant and lecturer at the Zoological Institute of the University of Vienna in the Department of Special Zoology and Developmental History under the direction of Luitfried Salvini-Plawen . Like Salvini-Plawén, Haszprunar is a specialist in the classification of molluscs .

In 1987 Haszprunar moved to the Leopold-Franzens University in Innsbruck , where he initially worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Zoology in the department for ultrastructural research and evolutionary biology under the direction of Reinhard M. Rieger . The end of 1988 habilitation he attended the University of Innsbruck, in early 1989 he received his license to teach as a university lecturer for "Zoology" at the former Natural Science Faculty and in 1990 he was there as an assistant professor transferred to a permanent employment relationship.

In 1995 Haszprunar was appointed to the chair for "Systematic Zoology" at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the same time he was the director of the Munich State Zoological Collection . Since the beginning of 2006 he has also been the General Director of the Bavarian State Natural Science Collections, whose general management and central administration are based in Munich. Haszprunar has also been President of the Association of Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine in Germany (VBIO e.V.) since December 2018.

Gerhard Haszprunar is married and the couple has three children.

Since 1978 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Nibelungia Vienna in the ÖCV .
