Gerhard Hecker (Sports Didactic)

Gerhard Hecker (born June 1926 in Weltersburg ; † December 30, 2007 ) was a German sports educator and university professor .

Life

Hecker, son of a teacher, grew up in Weltersburg in the Westerwald and from the age of ten in Sulzbach . As a teenager he played soccer and handball .

From 1937 he attended a grammar school in Frankfurt-Höchst . From 1943 he worked as an air force helper in World War II , then from 1944 in labor service and as a pioneer . In 1944 he was captured by the US Army and released in April 1946. He then took part in a course to obtain the Abitur .

From the winter semester of 1947/1948, Hecker studied physical education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, and from 1950 worked as a state-certified gymnastics and sports teacher. In 1948, when he was selected by the Frankfurt University, he became a German University Master. He continued his studies in Frankfurt (for a higher teaching post), but used it primarily as a “Studium Generale” and attended events in the subjects of philosophy, education, history, sport and politics in particular. He also took part in seminars with Max Horkheimer , Hermann Altrock and Theodor W. Adorno . In 1952 he passed the exam to become a ski instructor. In order to earn a living, Hecker carried out various auxiliary work, for example on construction sites and as a member of a music group.

From 1953 he had a job as a sports teacher at a secondary school in Mannheim and was also employed as a handball trainer and player at SG Leutershausen . By 1957 he completed a primary and secondary school teacher studies at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg and then worked as a primary school teacher in Flörsheim .

In 1960, Hecker took up an assistant position in physical education at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg. After teacher training in Hesse had become the responsibility of the universities, he worked as a pedagogical assistant at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen from 1962 and at the same time began studying for a doctorate at the Philipps University in Marburg . From 1965 onwards, Hecker was employed as a teacher for physical exercises at the Siegerland department of the Westphalia-Lippe University of Education . In 1970 he completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Marburg (title: "The peculiarity of updated tasks as a performance factor in physical education") and a year later his habilitation (title of the publication: "Performance development in physical education: a contribution to curriculum development for physical education in elementary schools") from.

In 1972 Hecker took over a professorship for physical education at the Pädagogische Hochschule Rheinland / Aachen department, in 1975 he switched to a professorship for sports didactics at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and stayed there until 1991 when Hecker retired. In the same year he was awarded the bronze medal of the sports university. Hecker , who lives in Bad Soden, then continued to work professionally as a supervisor for doctoral theses, reviewer, speaker (including in South American countries, China and Poland ) and teacher (for example at the Cologne Trainer Academy ).

From 1987 to 1990 he held the office of President of the Committee of German Physical Educationists (ADL). He was part of the editorial team of Sportunterricht magazine for 15 years (including twelve as editor). Hecker, who was a member of the German Association for Sports Science for many years , campaigned for the training of Chinese sports scientists in Germany.

During his academic career, Hecker dealt with sports didactics, reform education, the terms performance and competition in sports education, school sports, methodology and didactics in physical education, health sports, the sense of physical activity, the person of the trainer and with the Dealing with stressful situations. Together with Heinz Denk, he published the series “Texts on Sports Education”.
