The German Clarinet Duo is a clarinet duo of musicians and composers Theo Jörgensmann ; Clarinet and Eckard Koltermann ; Bass clarinet . The duo existed from 1984 to 1998.

Act

Jörgensmann and Koltermann have been working together intensively and regularly since the early 1980s. The clarinet quartet Cl-4 emerged from this collaboration (1985–1987). Both are founding members of the Grubenklangorchester and were an integral part of the contraband Willem van Manens from 1985 to 1998.In addition, they formed the impressionistic improvisers quartet (IIQ) with pianist Jeroen van Vliet and bassist Eric van der Westen .

The German Clarinet Duo has made guest appearances at many international festivals in Nuremberg , Cracow , Székesfehérvár , Amsterdam , Geneva (with Manfred Karge ), Moers (with Maria de Alvear ), Groningen etc.

You also worked with the wind quintet of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra . In 1995 they made a tour (The Jazz Connection) through the Netherlands as a guest soloist with Orkest De Volharding , where they performed Koltermann's composition Dilemma in F with Kenny Wheeler .

In 2014 the duo reunited.

music

The duo plays expressive, improvised chamber music in which musical communication plays an important role. Her music contains elements of jazz and new music . These elements are connected by a jazz-like conception of time, so that new musical spaces and unusual soundscapes arise.

The music critic Peter Niklas Wilson writes about the work of the duo in the liner notes for the CD Pagine Gialle: "Pagine Gialle is a 'golden hour' in the history of clarinet playing and contemporary music beyond all categories."

The Penguin Guide to Jazz rated the CD in the 6th edition with the highest grade of four stars.
