German championships of bicycle couriers
The German Championships of Bicycle Couriers ( DMFK for short ) - also German Cycle Messenger Championships ( GCMC ) or German Courier Championships ( DKM ) - are the unofficial championships for bicycle couriers in Germany.
In 1995 the first bicycle courier championship was held in Münster as a reaction to the euphoric enthusiasm in Berlin in 1993 and London in 1994, where the first bicycle courier world championships were held.
In 1996 the second German championship of bicycle couriers should have taken place in Hamburg . However, it became the first European bicycle courier championship. This was mainly due to the brisk registration of Dutch and Danish couriers.
It did not take place until 2001, but it is now carried out every year.
In 2013 the German championship together with the Austrian (OERM) and Swiss (SuiCMC) championships took place in Freiburg im Breisgau . This was held as a tri-national competition, or TriCMC for short.
A historical predecessor of these championships is the "Newspaper Driver Championship", which was organized by Fredy Budzinski in Berlin from 1920 to the 1950s .
