German Timofeev ( Russian Герман Тимофеев , born Геннадий Евгеньевич Тимофеев Gennadi Jewgenjewitsch Timofeyev * 11. November 1937 in Tashkent , USSR ) is Russian Orthodox Archbishop of Volgograd and Kamyshin (Russia). Between 1970 and 1974 he was Bishop of Vienna and Austria .

Career

German Timofejew entered the Spiritual Seminary in Saratov in 1955 and the Spiritual Seminary in Leningrad a year later , which he completed in 1962. During his studies he completed two years of military service. On December 19, 1965 he was ordained a monk by Metropolitan Nikodim Rotow, seven days later he was ordained a monk deacon by the Bishop of Sarayisk Juwenali and on May 26, 1966 he was ordained a monk priest by the Metropolitan of Leningrad Nikodim.

In 1966 he finished the Spiritual Academy in Leningrad with the title of candidate of theology and then taught dogmatics and canon law there . Just a year later, he became assistant to the inspector of the Leningrad Spiritual Academy, and eventually an inspector himself. In 1968 he was rector of the academy.

After his elevation to the Archimandrite on September 12, 1967 took place on December 6, 1968 in the church of the Academy to. He initially worked as the (titular) bishop of Tikhvin in the Diocese of Leningrad until he became bishop of Vienna and Austria on June 25, 1970, four years later bishop of Vilnius and Lithuania and on April 10, 1978 bishop of Tula and Beljow . On September 9, 1983, he was raised to the rank of archbishop. After he was appointed Archbishop of Berlin and Central Europe and Exarch of the Patriarch of Central Europe on July 29, 1986 , he became Archbishop of Berlin and Leipzig on January 31, 1990 with the dissolution of the Exarchate and one year later Archbishop of Volgograd and Kamyshin.
