Germentschuk ( Russian Герменчук ; Chechen Гермчига ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia with 10,736 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 25 km as the crow flies southeast of the republic capital Grozny on the Jalka , called the Bass upstream , a right tributary of the Sunscha .

Germentschuk belongs to the Shalinsky Rajon and is located about 4 km north of the city center of the Shali Rajon administrative seat , actually merging directly into it. The village is the seat and only locality of the rural community Germentchukskoje selskoje posselenije.

history

The year the village was founded is unknown. It is by members of the originally from the village Scherdy-Mochk in today Wedenski rayon derived Chechen Clan (teip) Schirdi have been founded. The place name is probably of Turkish origin, from kermen for fortress . Today's official form is the Russified variant of the Chechen form.

After the deportation of the Chechen population of the area in 1944, residents of the neighboring Dagestani ASSR were temporarily resettled there, and the village was given the Russian name Mostowoje (from most for bridge ). In 1957 the original name was restored.

From Germentschuk several high-ranking military and politicians come the separatist Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in the 1990s, the field commander and General Aslanbek Abdulchadschijew (1962-2002) and the Information Minister Movladi Udugov (* 1962), later in exile for the Caucasus Emirate active .

To the west, the village is bypassed by the regional road (formerly R306), which , coming from Argun , crosses the federal trunk road R217 Kawkas (formerly M29) 7 km north of Germentschuk near Mesker-Jurt and continues via Shali and the neighboring Rajon center Wedeno to Dagestan , in Direction Botlich  - Buinaksk . To the northeast, a local road leads to Zozin-Jurt, 8 km away .

The nearest train station is in Argun on the Gudermes  - Grozny line.
