Cugnasco-Gerra ( tess. Cügnasch-Gèra ) is a municipality in the Navegna district , in the Locarno district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . It is a merged church that was formed on April 20, 2008.

geography

The village is located on the edge of the Magadino plain and included the place of the same name as well as the fractions Boscioredo, Bosco, Massarescio, Medoscio, Moncucco, Pianrestello and Sciarana. The mountain pastures of Monti di Ditto and Curogna are the oldest settlements in Cugnasco.

history

The village is mentioned as Cunyascho in 1374. In 2005, the merger of the municipality of Cugnasco with the exclave Gerre di Sotto of the city of Locarno and the exclave Gerra Piano of the municipality of Gerra (Verzasca) to the municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra did not materialize.

One of the reasons for the failure was that the old core area of the municipality of Gerra in the central Verzasca valley after the separation of its exclave in the Magadino plain would have lost the majority of its population and had only around 200 inhabitants instead of 1200.

On April 20, 2008, the merger of Cugnasco with the entire municipality of Gerra (Verzasca) was implemented to form the new municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra (the Locarno Gerre di Sotto are not part of the merger area).

In the summer of 2010 a project was announced with which the entire area of the Verzasca Valley is to be combined in one municipality, the exclave of Cugnasco-Gerra, the Gerra Valle area belongs to the fusion perimeter.
