Gerra (Verzasca) is a fraction of the political municipality Cugnasco-Gerra in the Navegna district in the Locarno district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . Gerra (Verzasca) is located in the Valle Verzasca on the mountain river Verzasca and is surrounded by chestnut forests.

Merger with Cugnasco

The previously independent municipality was merged with Cugnasco on April 20, 2008 to form the new municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra . This connected the Gerra Piano exclave in the Magadino plain with the settlement area of ​​Cugnasco. The vast majority of the population (around 1000 people) of the former municipality lived in the Gerra Piano exclave.

History of the merger project

In 2004/2005 a merger of Gerra Piano and Gerre di Sotto (part of the city of Locarno ) with Cugnasco to the municipality of Cugnasco-Gerre failed .
