The Gesine von Papenburg is the reconstruction of a historical Schmack and an advertising medium for the city of Papenburg .
General
The Papenburg City Council decided in 1979 to commemorate the city's maritime heritage with replicas of traditional sailing ship types. Little by little , the Brigg Friederike von Papenburg , the Kuff Margaretha von Papenburg , the Tjalk Thekla von Papenburg , the Mother Anna von Papenburg and the schooner Katharina von Papenburg have been recreated in their original size and anchored in the Papenburg main canal. The Gesine von Papenburg is the only ship in this series that is ready to sail.
description
The construction plan of Gesine von Papenburg was reconstructed based on pictures and ship models. After that, the ship was built as a journeyman's piece by 21 trainees from Meyer Werft and delivered in 1985.
Deviating from the historical models
- the hull is now made of steel instead of wood and contains a ballast keel
- a ship's diesel engine enables safe cruising in the area ,
- Instead of the cargo space, a fair with an integrated pantry and two guest cabins have been set up,
- the mainsail is gaff rigged today
The Gesine von Papenburg is a regular guest at maritime events and can also be chartered outside of these times . For day trips, the ship is approved for 22 passengers and ten berths are available for overnight guests .
