Gib Ihm is a song by the German rapper and singer Shirin David from 2019. It was released as the second single and first video release of her debut album Supersize and was written by David himself together with Chima Ede and the track's producers, FNSHRS. , written.

Music and lyrics

Gib Him is a hip hop song with rap verses and sung elements. The verses are rapped by Shirin David while she sings the pre-hook. During the verses, her voice is not as hard and aggressive as you know it from other female rappers like Nicki Minaj , but rather soft, if it is determined. The chorus of the song is a rhythmically spoken repetition of the title Gib Ihm . The central themes of the title are her expensive lifestyle ( chandelier, booth, stand on chic, Donatella on my neck, but Jimmy the shoes ), her extravagance ( you arrive, say, "Shirin, that's really short!" I want to come in underwear, fuck your dress code! ) And her femininity ( we are so sexy, the paparazzi passes out ). She also uses clear exaggerations in the lyrics, with which she underlines the arrogance and self-confidence of the song: Nails longer than the shorts, Baby Give Him or kilometers of stilettos are just two examples.

Announcement and publication

David himself announced the single on February 9, 2019 on her Instagram profile with the cover illustration. The cover of Gib Ihm shows David, drawn, sitting in front of a collection of huge tote bags from luxury brands such as Gucci , Chanel and Louis Vuitton , lightly dressed . The song itself was released on February 15th under their own music label Juicy Money Records , while the music video went live on their Youtube channel on February 17th. The music video broke a German rap record on the very first day by receiving a million views in less than six hours. It broke the record for the Berlin Lebt music video by German rapper Capital Bra . The music video has generated over 56 million views to date (as of July 2020).

Music video

The music video for Gib Ihm , directed by PLUG, highlights the song's extravagance and arrogance once again. At the beginning, a note is displayed, from which you can see that no baby animals , shirizzles (that's what David calls her fans since 2015) or super sports cars were harmed, the plot and the flex are based on real events. She also makes it clear that she will not be paid or remunerated for any representation of the products of well-known brand manufacturers , but German law obliges her to label the video as advertising. The cover illustration, which shows David lightly dressed in front of or on tote bags of expensive luxury brands in oversize, was also implemented in real life. In other scenes you see her posing and dancing with dancers or twerking on a motorcycle decorated with flowers. Another sequence shows David with curlers in his hair and a white dress standing on a pedestal while three men who are free from the torso dress her. You can also see her, again with her dancers, lying on a diamond-studded Lamborghini and, again lightly dressed, cuddling with puppies on the floor. She wears a total of eight different outfits in different settings.

criticism

Give Him received mixed reviews. The song received praise for the good beat and the catchiness of the chorus. It was also recognized that David was one of the first German artists to include arrogant rap in the female rap community, as was introduced by US artists years earlier. Others criticized that she reduced herself too much to her appearance and therefore counteracted feminism , as well as distracting from her fundamental, musical potential. In addition, the parallelism to US rappers like Nicki Minaj or Cardi B was criticized by many . Red Bull named Gib Him the song of the year 2019.
