criticism

In 2006, Canadian columnist Stephen Henighan criticized the Giller Prize. In his opinion, the trend towards the centralization of Canadian publishers is leading to monopoly control of Bertelsmann AG , as the Bertelsmann Group publishers Knopf Canada , Doubleday Canada and Random House Canada, all based in Toronto , often have titles on the shortlist are.

Henighan's article sparked a lively debate in the media and the general public about the credibility of the Giller Prize.
