| Butcher's daughter Marie ( Mariele Millowitsch ) catches her boyfriend Peter ( Simon Licht ) red-handed with his affair on the evening of her 35th birthday . Disillusioned, she struggles with the decision to separate from him or to maintain the relationship out of love for him - but neither father Erich ( Wilfried Dziallas ) nor mother Elisabeth ( Dagmar Laurens ) are of great help to shy Marie. Friend Ilka ( Tamara Rohloff ), chief secretary of the hotel management in the international Hansson group, discovered after a stay in New York that her Hamburg apartment had been broken into. At work, her colleagues Nicole ( Nele Mueller-Stöfen ), Elfie ( Manon Straché ) and Vera ( Nina Sonja Peterson ) from the writing pool are confronted with daring hints from the deputy HR manager Daniela ( Bettina Kupfer ).

| While Peter is moving out of the shared apartment, Marie, discouraged, throws her life overboard and quits her unloved job as an office worker in the local tree nursery . Looking for distraction, she fled to Ilka in Hamburg, where she spontaneously got her an interview at the Hansson Hotel, but HR manager Dr. Begemann ( Arnfried Lerche ) is not very enthusiastic about Marie's résumé and initially rejects her. In the writing pool there are increasing rumors that the management is considering outsourcing the department as part of cost-cutting measures . When pool manager Gudrun Stade ( Andrea Bürgin ) found out about the speculation, she confronted hotel director Ronaldo Schäfer ( Walter Sittler ), who, however, met her horror with a surprise.

| At her new job in the writing pool of the Hansson Hotel, Marie receives a frosty welcome: Ms. Stade as well as Nicole, Elfie and Vera consider the newcomer to be an overprivileged spy on the executive floor. Only a clarifying conversation leads to a discussion and an invitation to Nicole's lingerie party , where Marie meets her brother Ben ( Max Gertsch ). This offers her after a falling out with his home Ilka on, but Marie, according to a guarantee again by the now unemployed Peter and his debt of 20,000 DM is pursued, looks at first forced to reject the offer. Meanwhile, Ilka catches her friend Frank ( Krystian Martinek ) having an affair with a patient, but ultimately decides to forgive him.

| Ms. Stade is appointed as the new chief secretary of the deputy hotel director Dieter Saalbach ( Dietmar Mues ). In the writing pool, their promotion triggers both joy and competitiveness. Despite several attempts to flirt with Saalbach, Nicole fails because of her relationship with Daniela in her efforts to secure the vacated head of department. Marie moves into Ben's former attic apartment. He confesses his affection for her during a visit and despite initial reluctance, the two finally spend the night together. At work, Marie is visited by the bailiff , who again confronts her with repaying Peter's debt; At home, her parents report on the disappearance of the bitch Biene. Meanwhile, Ronaldo says goodbye to his daughter Heike ( Christina Große ), who is starting a year abroad in New Zealand .

| CEO Bill Hansson (Gösta Bredefeldt) checks in under a false name during Ronaldo's absence to check the hotel incognito . The employees are not very courteous due to his disguise and various special requests. Only Marie can convince with her willingness to help. Elfie succeeds Ms. Stade as the head of the writing pool and is confronted for the first time with the uncomfortable tasks of her new position. It is only through Daniela's unselfish contribution that she can work with Dr. Begemann enforce the promised salary increase for the single parent Vera. Ilka and Marie spend the weekend on Sylt with Frank and Ben . On the way home, Ilka and Frank have a life-threatening accident with their car.

| Ilka is absent from work for several weeks after her car accident. In order to relieve Ms. Stade in the executive secretariat, Ronaldo unceremoniously dismisses Marie as Ilka's representative. She is immediately commissioned by him to work out a study, but the confidential documents exceed Marie's knowledge of English and she is forced to accept help from Elfie, Vera and Nicole. When Daniela discovers this, she reports to Ronaldo, who indignantly threatens the overwhelmed Marie with dismissal - but not without having read her synopsis. Meanwhile, Vera spends a romantic evening with trainer Albert Baumgarten ( Paul Frielinghaus ), but does not dare to tell him about her son. Nicole finally gives in to the stubborn advances of Saalbach, who is meanwhile hired as an informant by the competing Townhouse Group.

| Ronaldo is increasingly enthusiastic about Marie's commitment as Ilka's replacement. Mrs. Stade, who is a thorn in Marie's eagerness, uses this as an opportunity to sow discord with the sick Ilka. When Ilka finally expresses the suspicion to Marie that she is trying to take her out of her job, a heated argument breaks out between the friends. Meanwhile, visitors from Hitzacker are staying at the Hansson Hotel: Estate owner Alexander Hofstädter ( Peer Jäger ) confesses his affection to Marie over dinner, but she finds it difficult to reject the much older friend of the family. Nicole is surprised by her fiancé Thorsten ( Paul T. Grasshoff ) when Saalbach tries again, but manages to save the situation with a spontaneous marriage proposal.

| Marie successfully organizes a secretary's reception at the hotel with Ronaldo's approval. Ilka, who is discharged from the hospital and being looked after by Frank at home, sees herself sidelined and fears about her position as assistant director. Ronaldo and his wife Ursula ( Donata Höffer ) celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary . Despite Ursula's previous weakness, they celebrate their anniversary in style over dinner. To everyone's surprise, daughter Heike from Übersee turns up in the restaurant to personally congratulate her parents. Meanwhile, Ben received an offer from a label to produce a record with his band.

| After her accident, Ilka returns to work at the Hansson in the absence of Ronaldo. Marie, who, at Saalbach's behest, ordered her back into the writing pool and, under dubious reasons, was given by Dr. Begemann is warned , feels ignored by both her friend and colleagues and is toying with thoughts of finally turning her back on the hotel. A tumor has now been discovered in Ursula . In great concern for his wife, Ronaldo declines the offer to move to the board of the Hansson Group. Albert expresses to Elfie the idea of wanting to propose to Vera, but gives up the fact that he can tell her an important detail about himself.

| Marie is invited for an interview by the competing Townhouse Group. When the grieving Ronaldo returns to the hotel after his wife's funeral and learns about her being transferred back to the writing pool, he furiously confronts Saalbach, Begemann, Ilka and Ms. Stade. Ms. Stade, the Dr. Begemann accepts the offer to move to the HR department to support Daniela and then vacates her place for Marie. After losing her handbag, Ilka is being followed by her finder ( Lutz Herkenrath ) and harassed with obscene phone calls. In her desperation she confides in Marie, who loudly puts the stranger in their place.

| Marie and Ronaldo travel together to Stockholm , where they present CEO Hansson Marie's country hotel concept. He is enthusiastic and agrees to the further development of the idea. Meanwhile, Ilka reveals that she will be leaving the Hansson Hotel to take over management of Frank's clinic. Marie then suggests the surprised Nicole for Ilka's successor, who takes the upcoming promotion as a reason for renewed disputes with Daniela. Meanwhile, at lunch, Ilka and Marie expose Saalbach as a spy of the townhouse group. When Ronaldo found out about it, he fell from the clouds and gave notice to his longtime friend. Without work and with a divorce proceeding, he decides to throw himself off the hotel roof.

| The takeover of the planned country hotel in Hitzacker is more difficult than expected: Hofstädter refuses to sell his estate to the Hansson Group. Ronaldo gets into an argument with Marie because of the tough negotiations. After reconciliation, he confesses his affection for her - but Marie finds herself caught between her relationship with Ben and her position at the hotel, despite her feelings for him. Meanwhile, at her farewell party at Hofstädter's estate, Ilka received an unexpected offer: Ronaldo would like to make her his deputy after Saalbach's departure. Elfie gets into a dispute with Albert after he continues to refuse to pour Vera clear wine. Doorman Heronimus Schmolke ( Harald Maack ), meanwhile, uses his vacation to rent a suite in the Hansson - to the irritation of his colleagues.

| Marie's emotional chaos continues to put her to the test. Over dinner with Ben, Ben confesses his feelings for singer Linda ( Gundula Ulbrich ) and Marie no longer wants to hide her affection for Ronaldo. Both decide to part in friendship - and pave the way for Ronaldo. By chance, Marie also learns that, to everyone's surprise, Ilka is returning to the Hansson as Ronaldo's deputy. Albert can finally take courage to tell Vera about his past: In a gay café he confesses to her that he has only had relationships with men so far. Nicole celebrates her birthday shortly before the wedding with an argument with Thorsten. On the day of the marriage, the entire Hansson staff comes to the church to celebrate the happy couple.
