Butcher's daughter Marie ( Mariele Millowitsch ) catches her boyfriend Peter ( Simon Licht ) red-handed with his affair on the evening of her 35th birthday . Disillusioned, she struggles with the decision to separate from him or to maintain the relationship out of love for him - but neither father Erich ( Wilfried Dziallas ) nor mother Elisabeth ( Dagmar Laurens ) are of great help to shy Marie. Friend Ilka ( Tamara Rohloff ), chief secretary of the hotel management in the international Hansson group, discovered after a stay in New York that her Hamburg apartment had been broken into. While Peter is moving out of the shared apartment, Marie, discouraged, throws her life overboard and quits her unloved job as an office worker in the local tree nursery . Looking for distraction, she fled to Ilka in Hamburg, where she spontaneously got her an interview at the Hansson Hotel, but HR manager Dr. Begemann ( Arnfried Lerche ) is not very enthusiastic about Marie's résumé and initially rejects her.
