Girolamo Casanate (born February 13, 1620 in Naples , † March 3, 1700 in Rome ; also Girolamo Casanata ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of Tomás (or Matías) Casanate, member of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Naples and diplomat, and his wife Juana (Giovanna) Dalmau. He had been in contact with the Dominicans since childhood, and in 1633 received the tonsure. Girolamo Casanate studied at the University of Naples , where he received his doctorate iuris utriusque in 1635 . He then practiced law in Naples. At the suggestion of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Pamphilj, later Pope Innocent X , he entered the clergy. In 1645 he became chamberlain, and on January 15, 1648 governor of the cities of Sabina . In 1652 he was governor of Fabriano and from September 3, 1653, governor of Camerino, he moved there on September 14, 1653 of the same year.
