Giuseppe Sandri MCCJ (born August 26, 1946 in Faedo , † May 30, 2019 in Pretoria , South Africa ) was an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Witbank .

Life

Giuseppe Sandri joined the order of the Comboni Missionaries on August 15, 1968 , made his profession on August 15, 1971 and was ordained a priest on May 27, 1972 after studying theology in Cincinnati (USA) . From then on he worked in South Africa before he was general secretary of the Comboni missionaries in Rome from 1999 to 2007 . In 2008 he returned to South Africa as the Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 6, 2009 bishop in Witbank, South Africa. The Archbishop of Johannesburg , Buti Joseph Tlhagale OMI , donated him episcopal ordination on January 31 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Hugh Patrick Slattery MSC , Bishop of Tzaneen , and Mogale Paul Nkhumishe , Bishop of Polokwane . He died in May 2019 in a Pretoria hospital after a long illness.
