Glen Goldsmith (born August 17, 1965 in High Wycombe , Buckinghamshire ) is a British singer and songwriter . His biggest hits as a singer are I Won't Cry (1987) and Dreaming (1988).

biography

The son of Jamaican parents signed his first recording contract with RCA Records in 1987 . With the first singles , I Won't Cry (34th place) and Dreaming (12th place), Goldsmith made it into the English charts . In Germany , I Won't Cry even climbed to 18th place, but remained his only chart success there.

The accompanying album What You See Is What You Get climbed to the top 20 in the UK. The release of the same name and its follow-up single Save a Little Bit reached lower chart ranks in the singer's homeland. During this time he made various television appearances, e. B. at Top of the Pops .

At the end of 1989 Goldsmith was part of the cast of the band Aid II , who at the turn of the year started with a new version of the benefit song Do They Know It's Christmas? had a number one hit on the UK charts.

Meanwhile Goldsmith worked as a songwriter. He co-wrote the song You Got Me Dancing , which is on his second album Don't Turn This Groove Around , alongside the American producer Jaee Logan . In September 1990, the single rose briefly to the British charts as a feature with MC Hammer . The track is Hammer's first UK release.

In the 1990s, Glen Goldsmith worked alongside Ollie Jay (alias Oliver Jacobs) and Philip Jacobs increasingly in the areas of songwriting and production . Titles such as Understanding (1991), Put Love (1992) and Learn to Live (1993) as well as Go with the Flow (1993) , published by Diverse Recordings, were created . In Call Me by My Name , the B-side of the 1993 UK top 30 hits I Never Felt Like This Before by Mica Paris , he was co-author, along with Paul Johnson and Phil Edwards.

In the years that followed, Goldsmith wrote for artists such as Dannii Minogue ( Exclusively , 1995), Rozalla ( Don't Stop the Lovin ' , 1998), Ultimate Kaos, and MN8 . He had his greatest success in 1996 when he co-wrote Mysterious Girl . The song was interpreted by co-authors Peter André and Bubbler Ranx as a number-one success in England. In addition, Oliver and Philip Jacobs were involved in the creation of the hit. Goldsmith was also part of the team of authors for Peter Andrés' 1997 UK top 10 hit Natural .

In 2000 the musician opened his own recording studio in Ladbroke Grove , London , and founded his production company "Blues & Rhythm" and the record label of the same name . In 2004 he wrote Trippin ' for Milk & Sugar and in 2008 Love Me No More , the debut single of singer Niki Evans.

In 2011 he took part in the BBC Two - Comedy - quiz show Never Mind the Buzzcocks part and founded his own independent label "Soul on Soul Records". In December of that year, Goldsmith's comeback single Jammin in the Place was released . In 2012, So @ Ease followed, a track that was listed in the British soul charts . The soul single Don't Delay was released as was its successor London Skies in 2014.
