The Glungezerhütte is a refuge of the Hall in Tirol section of the Austrian Alpine Club in the Tux Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol . The hut is located at 2610  m above sea level. A. on the saddle between the Glungezergipfel and the Sonnenspitze .

The hut is open in summer and winter. In winter it is mainly frequented by ski tourers, as the hut can be easily reached from the Glungezer lifts in just over an hour's walk. The hut is also a base for avalanche and mountain rescue courses in winter. In summer it is accommodation for hikers who can reach the hut from the Glungezerlift or from the Patscherkofel . The hut is also a base for some long-distance hiking trails : Tyrolean Eagle Walk, Via Alpina , Dream Path Munich-Venice , Inntaler Höhenweg and Olympiaweg Garmisch - Cortina .

history

In 1932 the Ski Club Tirol built a small wooden hut on a stone base at the starting point of the Glungezer run. It turned out to be too small. In 1933 the first stone hut was built; this had a utility room for 50 to 60 people and a bedroom with ten emergency shelters. This hut can still be seen in today's hut in the narrow north wing. Since the hut was overrun by visitors from the start, the first extension was built in 1934. But the hut was still barely able to cope with the onslaught of skiers in winter. Four fifths of the visitors came over from the Patscherkofel . The architect Theo Prachensky , who was himself a member of the Ski Club Tirol, was won over for a further expansion . In the summer of 1935, Prachensky's plans were implemented in record time. Prachensky's idea was to create a magnificent mountain home that exudes cosiness despite the bulk of its outer walls and the beams and columns inside. The Prachensky Building was inaugurated on April 6, 1936. Up until the first years of World War II , the Glungezer was one of the most popular ski mountains in the Alps and the hut was much visited. From 1941 onwards, the number of visits to the huts decreased considerably, and in December 1945 a foehn storm lifted part of the roof and severely damaged the masonry. The hut was renovated between 1946 and 1948.

In 1951, the OeAV Hall-Wattens section took over the Glungezerhütte and expanded it in 1952. The hut entrance was moved from the south to the north side. In the decades that followed, the hut was often built. It had to be re-covered in the summer of 1962 after a storm had covered a large part of the roof. From 1965, the hut was powered by a petrol-diesel generator. In 1968 a material ropeway was built to the hut. In 1978, the hut was connected to the public electricity network by laying a cable down to the hut from the air monitoring station of the armed forces at the Glungezer summit. In 1994 the hut was rebuilt and expanded, from 1994 to 1996 a drinking water pipe was built up from the Tulfein and a sewer pipe down. Since the drinking water pipeline often froze over, a 100 cubic meter cistern was built just below the hut in 2003 , from which the hut can be reliably supplied with drinking water even in winter.

ways

The Glungezerhütte can be reached from the Tulfeinalm in one and a half hours. In summer you can get to the Tulfeinalm from Tulfes with two chairlifts. The hut can be reached in three hours from the mountain station of the Patscherkofelbahn . The hut can also be reached in about three hours on foot from the Meißner Haus in the Viggartal. From Tulfes or von Rinn , the ascent to the hut is a three to four hour walk. You can also climb to the hut via the Glungezer via ferrata .

Even though the approaches to the hut are usually long, some peaks are very close, so the Sonnenspitze is 2639  m above sea level. A. can be reached in just ten minutes by foot and you can also walk to the summit of the Glungezer in just fifteen minutes. It is further south to the Kreuzspitze 2746  m above sea level. A. and to the Rosenjoch 2796  m above sea level. A. with two and a half or three hours of walking. The Patscherkofel , which is 2247  m above sea level. A. Much lower than the hut is, can also be reached in three hours of walking.

The transition from the Glungezer hut to the Lizumer hut via the Rosenjoch and the Navisjoch takes about eight hours. This route over seven peaks is called the Glungezer & Geier route and was awarded the Tyrolean Mountain Trail seal of approval in 2008.
