The Gmina Szamotuły [ʃamɔ'tuwɨ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Szamotulski of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name ( German Samter ) with about 18,750 inhabitants.

The municipality is located about 20 km northwest of Poznan .
history
The municipality has existed since 1975 and was part of the Poznan Voivodeship until 1998 .
