Gniewkowo ( German  God's grace ) was a small place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The local office is in the area of Gmina Górowo Iławeckie ( rural community Landsberg ) in Powiat Bartoszycki (district Bartenstein ).

Geographical location

Gniewkowo is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 21 kilometers southwest of the former district town of Prussian Eylau (now Bagrationovsk in Russian ) and 32 kilometers northwest of today's district town of Bartoszyce ( Bartenstein in German ).

history

Originally Barßlack before 1785 Barchlack called town was founded in 1693; As a Vorwerk it was a place to live in the Groß Steegen manor district ( Stega Wielka in Polish ). It belonged to the district of the same name in the district of Preußisch Eylau in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

On September 30, 1928, the Divine Mercy Vorwerk was reclassified from the Groß Steegen manor district to the rural community of Sangnitte (Polish Sągnity ) in the Wildenhoff district (Polish Dzikowo Iławeckie ).

When the whole of southern East Prussia was surrendered to Poland in 1945 as a result of the war , God's grace was also affected. It received the Polish form of the name Gniewkowo and was incorporated into Sągnity. Thus, today's local office belongs to the area of Gmina Górowo Iławeckie (rural community Landsberg ) in powiat Bartoszycki (district Bartenstein ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn (Allenstein) voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian voivodeship . Gniewkowo grew up in the village of Sągnity.

church

Until 1945, God's grace was in the parish of the Evangelical Church in Kanditten ( Polish: Kandyty ) in the parish of Preussisch Eylau in the church province of East Prussia of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic parish in Landsberg (Eastern Pr.) ( Polish Górowo Iławeckie ) in the then diocese of Ermland parish. Today the church affiliation is based on the church connections of the place Sągnity.

traffic

Street

The Gniewkowos branch is located in the Polish border region with the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast (Königsberg region) . It is located away from the traffic on a side road that connects Sągnity (Sangnitte) with Skarbiec (Schatzberg) .
