Gods of War ( English for: " Gods of War ") is the tenth studio album by the American true metal band Manowar . The concept album was released in Germany on February 23, 2007, in France on March 5, 2007 and in the rest of Europe on March 26, 2007.

Emergence

This album was originally supposed to be released a year earlier. Due to a motorcycle accident and the resulting hand injury of guitarist Karl Logan , the release and the tour were postponed.

Band boss and main songwriter Joey DeMaio used the time gained to fundamentally change the concept of the album. In particular, he researched Norse mythology intensively and converted it into a concept album . Gods of War is intended to be the start of a cycle of four concept albums, each dealing with a god of war. In Gods of War , this is the Norse god Odin . The cycle is closely related to Richard Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen .

The song Die for Metal is a bonus track as it is not part of the album's concept. The song was created in reference to a controversial interview between Joey DeMaio and the rock hard editor Götz Kühnemund , at the end of which DeMaio announced that he would die for metal if necessary. The band's self-irony behind this song culminates in the dedication of the song in the booklet of the CD (“We honor those below ... Die for Metal: Götz Kühnemund”).
