Goodies is an R&B and hip-hop song by the US R&B singer Ciara and rapper Petey Pablo . It was written for Ciara's 2004 debut album Goodies by Ciara, Sean Garrett , LaMarquis Jefferson, Craig Love and Lil Jon . A combination of crunk , hip-hop and R&B, Goodies was released as the first single on the album in the summer of 2004 and in some countries in the spring of 2005. The song became Ciara's first number one hit in the UK and US charts . He was number one for seven weeks in a row . The song was also internationally successful and was awarded gold in the USA.

Background and origin

After the success of Usher's “Yeah!” And Petey Pablo's “Freek-a-Leek”, LaFace and LA Reid wanted to produce a female version of Pablo's “Freek-a-Leek”. Ciara wanted to record the song with hip-hop producer Lil Jon. She recorded a demo for the song, had difficulty writing the lyrics and only recorded the melody. Reid asked songwriter Sean Garrett to help Ciara write songs. It took several days for the lyrics to be finished.

reception

"Goodies" received numerous good reviews. Fazed.com called the song "clever and ironic about your sexy image" and wrote: "The song has a sexy beat". The Situation described the song as "a perfect dance tune with a solid beat". In 2005, Goodies was nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best R & B / Soul or Rap Song of the Year". Goodies is featured on the soundtrack to the 2006 film Just My Luck .

Commercial win

Goodies is Ciara's most successful single in the US. It debuted at 94th place on the Billboard Hot 100 and stood at No. 1 for seven weeks. It reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay, Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs, Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Airplay, Rhythmic Top 40 and Top 40 tracks charts. The song followed Lean Back from Terror Squad at number 1. It reached number 9 in the US annual charts of 2004.

Goodies reached # 1 in Canada and the UK . The song reached the top twenty in Australia and Norway and the top ten in Germany and New Zealand . In Austria, France and Holland the song was not a success.

Music video

Benny Boom directed the Goodies music video. It shows Ciara and her friends driving the streets of Atlanta . There are guest appearances in the music video from BoneCrusher, Monica , Rasheeda , Jazze Pha , Young Jeezy , Lil Jon and many others. Ciara filmed the video for 27 hours with director Benny Boom.
