The school was named on February 2, 1952 for the 100th birthday of Gottfried Röhl. Gottfried Röhl (born February 9, 1852 Sinzlow near Stettin , † January 17, 1935 Berlin ) was a teacher at the 86th community school, the forerunner of the Gottfried Röhl elementary school, and in this role a reformer of the school system . Röhl was a member of the German teachers' association and from 1897 secretary of the Berlin district association. He was one of the founders of the Berlin teachers' association, of which he was second chairman. From 1904 to 1921 he was chairman of the German teachers' association. In 1912 he was made an honorary member by the Berlin teachers' association . After his retirement in 1920 he was again elected chairman of the Berlin teachers' association. He lived from 1878 to 1900 at Reinickendorfer Straße 20B, or, 26A, from 1901 to 1935 at Seestraße 63, then 98 and finally 97.

School program and mission statement of the school

The Gottfried-Röhl-Grundschule is an open all-day school , with a very large catchment area , which also includes some streets from “ social hotspot areas ” and extends into the neighboring district of Berlin-Reinickendorf . Some streets that have been added to the catchment area in recent years are on the other side of Müllerstrasse and are among the focal areas of Weddings. The proportion of students whose language of origin was not German was 63.5% in the 2015/16 school year and reached its high point of 74.4% in the 2013/14 school year. In the 2005/2006 school year, around 40% of the children came from socially disadvantaged families who received social assistance , housing benefits or the like to support themselves. This proportion is now 80%.

In the after-school care sector , there has been a collaboration with FiPP eV (advanced training institute for pedagogical practice) for the education, care and upbringing of children in the all-day area and in the "reliable half-day elementary school" (VGH), so that in addition to the care times of the VHG from 7 : 30–13: 40 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm full-day care can be offered.

The school carries out various projects that are intended to offer a lifelike form of teaching. This includes For example, the “Literary Week”, which was held for the first time in November 2015, where students in grades 4 to 6 were able to work and write with writers. Reading competitions and a reading project day take place regularly. The book bus visits school every Tuesday. In addition, two honorary employees have been responsible for running the PC and Werk AG and for managing the Tanz AG for almost ten years . There is also a specialist room for art and one for natural sciences, which, with an extraordinarily well-equipped kitchen, is used multifunctionally for lessons, working groups and leisure time. There are special learning group and learning therapy offers to support learning development. Linguistic support has a special place. Several teachers have additional qualifications in the field of German as a second language , which have been supported by female students since the 2015/2016 school year. The Röhl Academy supports teacher training and coaching for young teachers and career changers.

During a study day in April 2005, a model for the pedagogical principles for teaching and upbringing was developed together with parents and teachers . Four focal points were discussed:

Teamwork , social skills , health , teaching work

which were subsequently specified and describe the goals:

  • The Gottfried Röhl School is a beautiful school.
Our school architecture is characterized by bright and large classrooms in a well-structured pavilion. During the breaks and all day long, our children use a park-like schoolyard landscape, which we are developing educationally.
  • The Gottfried Röhl School is a diverse school.
We want to give all of our children the opportunity to discover and develop their strengths. For this purpose, we offer a variety of working groups, series of events and projects that are related to our profile development in the sports sector, in the musical-artistic sector and in the linguistic-literary sector.
  • The Gottfried Röhl School is a healthy school.
We attach great importance to treating everyone involved in school life with respect. It is our aim to teach our children a healthy lifestyle. Teamwork is important to us.
  • The Gottfried Röhl School is a modern school.
Our school attaches great importance to media education and has very good equipment in terms of computers, electronic teaching boards and all other modern media.

The school program is currently being further developed.

architecture

The Gottfried Röhl elementary school, built in the Schillerhöhe housing estate between 1961 and 64, represents an important step in the development of school construction . The "cross type" adopted from Hamburg promised a functional and inexpensive construction method. The school complex, built on a spacious, green site, consists of three double-storey, cross-shaped pavilions with class and specialist rooms, a smaller pre-class pavilion, all of which are arranged around a shared playground, the two-storey administration building and the gym . Since the school had significantly higher numbers of pupils in the 1990s, two additional mobile pavilions were set up and the pre-class pavilion was demolished. All buildings are connected by pergola-like corridors. The load-bearing reinforced concrete elements are accentuated in color by a gray paint and clad with colored asbestos cement panels , white ceramic panels for the parapet surfaces and exposed aggregate concrete panels on the narrow sides. The building complex is a vivid example of German post-war modernism . The school property is open to the street and the Schillerpark directly behind it and until 2013 was not delimited by a fence. The school is a listed building monument .
