Gottfried Engelmann (born July 23, 1926 in Glauchau ; † January 22, 2006 there ) was a German functionary of the GDR bloc party LDPD . From 1971 to 1989 he was a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

Engelmann, the son of a commercial employee , became a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) while still in high school in 1944 .

From 1946 to 1948 he trained as a spinner and weaver , studied at the engineering school for textile technology in Reichenbach in the Vogtland until 1950 and became a textile engineer. He joined the LDPD in 1946. From 1948 to 1958 he was operations manager and from 1958 to 1972 he was also a general partner of the then semi-public company Nitschke & Co. Weberei in Glauchau. From 1958 to 1961 he completed a distance learning course for general partners at the University of Leipzig and in 1963 became a graduate economist . In 1971 he was promoted to Dr. oec. PhD.

Engelmann was elected deputy chairman of the LDPD district executive in Glauchau in 1958 and elected member of the Glauchau district council in 1962, to which he was a member until 1966. From 1967 to 1971 he was the successor candidate of the People's Chamber. On June 24, 1971, at the 20th meeting of the People's Chamber, he succeeded the late Walter Thürmer as a member of the People's Chamber . There he was a member of the Committee on Budget and Finance. In addition, from 1970 to 1972 he was chairman of the working group for general partners, craftsmen and tradespeople at the Karl-Marx-Stadt district committee of the National Front (NF). At the 11th party congress of the LDPD in February 1972 he was elected to the central executive committee and a member of the Political Committee of the ZV of the LDPD.

In 1972 the company he ran was nationalized with state participation and he became director of the VEB Kammgarnweberei in Glauchau. From 1973 to 1975 he was director at VEB Textilwerke Palla-Glauchau and then until 1979 director for procurement. From 1979 he was director for export in the VEB Kombinat wool and silk in Meerane .
