Gottfried Siegesmund von Steinwehr

Gottfried Siegesmund von Steinwehr (born June 22, 1731 in Cremling, † October 7, 1797 in Graudenz ) was a Prussian colonel and chief of the Prussian-Pomeranian fortress artillery.

Life

Origin and family

Gottfried Siegesmund was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Steinwehr . He was married to Veronica Henriette von Braun and had at least three daughters with her.

Career

Steinwehr joined the Prussian artillery in 1753 . Of the 29 NCOs who Karl Wilhelm von Dieskau proposed to the king in December 1756 for an officer career in the artillery , only Steinwehr made a career and in 1757 was promoted to second lieutenant . He rose to staff captain in 1761 and became prime captain in 1763 . Up until this promotion, Steinwehr was company commander of 1st Company in Pillau and was then transferred to Garrison Company (No. 13). He was promoted to major in 1782, and to lieutenant colonel in 1790. From 1793 Steinwehr was chief of the Prussian-Pomeranian fortress artillery and in 1795 advanced to colonel.
