Rittberg (formerly also Retberg ) is the name of an originally Westphalian noble family . The family, some of whose branches still exist today, later acquired property and prestige mainly in Prussia , but also in Poland and Mecklenburg .

history

origin

In older literature, it is assumed that the family descended from the von Rietberg family, which died out in 1562 . Accordingly, the last Count Johann von Rietberg is said to have been married to Maria von Sinzemann in his second marriage. Their descendants, who had named themselves by Rittberg and settled in Prussia , would not have had the title of count due to the inappropriate marriage of a ruling imperial count with a young lady from the lower nobility .

According to the genealogical manual of the aristocracy but the sex already appears in 1405 with about Lippstadt Board worn- Hermann from the Redberge first documented. Spread and personalities

Johann Rembert Rettberg married in 1697 Helene Elisabeth von Münnich (1679–1734), the eldest sister of the Imperial Russian Field Marshal Burkhard Christoph von Münnich . From the marriage came the three sons Anton Günther Albrecht, Johann Dietrich Arnold and Johann Wilhelm Florens, who were raised to the Prussian count status in 1751 . Anton Günther Albrecht Graf von Rettberg (* 1693), Herr auf Littschen, died in 1763 as a royal Polish major general and colonel in the Crown Guard . In 1738 he married Dorothea Sophie von Bardeleben (1701–1765). With the death of her son Johann Burchard Theodor Graf Rittberg (* 1735), lord of Littschen as well as royal Polish chamberlain and colonel, on January 26, 1771, their descendants in the male line died out . Johann Dietrich Arnold Graf von Rittberg, Lord of Vietzow and Wutzow in Pomerania , became a royal Prussian colonel. His first marriage from 1751 to Wilhelmine Dorothea von Kunow (1729–1752) and his second marriage from 1753 to Auguste Freiin von Eickstedt from the House of Rothenklempenow (1728–1784). Johann Wilhelm Florens Count von Rittberg (1719–1791) took his leave as royal Prussian captain in 1756 and died without leaving any descendants.

The current Counts of Rittberg are all descendants of Count Johann Wilhelm Ludwig von Rittberg (1752–1831). Of his sons, the three counts Heinrich Karl Ludwig August (formerly Brandenburg line), Georg Albrecht (Prussian line) and Johann Wilhelm Ferdinand (Silesian, formerly Mecklenburg-Pomeranian line) were able to continue the tribe. Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Graf von Rittberg, Lord on Sydow and Schönfeld in the Mittelmark , later on Adamsdorf in the Neumark , was married to Charlotte von Beeren (1760-1832) for the second time since 1790. Prussian line

Heinrich Georg Eduard Karl was royal Prussian district administrator , captain and general councilor as well as lord of the manors Stangenberg, Balau and Höfchen in the former district of Stuhm . In 1816 he married Wilhemine von Fritze (1791–1868). In addition to two daughters, the couple had three sons. Son Heinrich Georg Adalbert Max von Rittberg (1823-1897) became royal Prussian district administrator of the Stuhm district and in 1859 married Anna von Vegesack (1841-1887). From this marriage two sons and four daughters were born. Heinrich's brothers were Count Woldemar von Rittberg (* 1829), royal Prussian lieutenant, and Oswald von Rittberg (1832–1908). The latter was also a royal Prussian lieutenant and district administrator of the former district of Ueckermünde as well as master of Albrechtsdorf. From his marriage to Hedwig Luise Emma von Enckevort from the Vogelsang House (1839–1909), he had two sons.

Silesian, formerly Mecklenburg-Pomerania line

Count Johann Wilhelm Ferdinand von Rittberg (1765–1840), lord of Warbelow in Mecklenburg, royal Swedish captain came from the Mecklenburg-Pomerania and later Silesian line . In 1794 he married Sophie Juliane Dorothea, divorced from Ferber, von Güldner (1774–1882), heir to Beselin and Fresendorf in Mecklenburg. The brothers of Count Ludwig Georg August (1797–1881) were Count Ernst Friedrich Anton (1807–1872) and Dietrich Ludwig Christoph Elias Martin (1813–1897). Ernst Friedrich Anton Graf von Rittberg, Lord of Ober- and Niederposchlitz in the Kreuzburg district , became a royal Prussian lieutenant colonel . He married Adelheid von Dewitz (1816–1886) in 1836 . In addition to six daughters, the couple had four sons, Counts Benno, Ernst, Karl Albert Friedrich August (1844–1911) and Leopold. All entered royal Prussian military service. His brother Dietrich Ludwig Christoph Elias Martin Graf von Rittberg settled in Mecklenburg and married Adele Wanda Marie von Gräve (1865-1897) in Berlin in 1865.
