Arnold Goswin von Rittberg

Arnold Goswin von Rittberg (* 1680 in Soest ; † December 8, 1751 in Halle ) was a Prussian major general and head of a Silesian garrison regiment and heir to Gudenberg and Neudeck in West Prussia.

Life

origin

His parents were Gerhard von Rittberg (1649–1701) and his wife Anna Katharina, née von Moller.

Military career

In 1696 he came to the Brandenburg regiment "Varenne on foot" . In 1705 he became ensign , on April 23, 1712 captain and on August 15, 1723 major . King Friedrich Wilhelm I made him governor of the princes August Wilhelm, Heinrich and Ferdinand. On May 1, 1733 he became a lieutenant colonel . In 1739 he took his leave. When Frederick II took the throne, he came back. In 1744 he became major general and received a garrison regiment in the Lower Silesian cities of Patschkau , Nimptsch and Ottmachau . Due to an illness, he took his leave in 1747. He died in Halle on December 8, 1751 .

With the regiment "Varenne" he fought in the battles of Höchstädt, Schellenberg and Malplaquet . He also took part in the sieges of Ryssel , Douay , Geldern and Stralsund . Rittberg was a knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

family

He was married to Charlotte von Schönaich (* 1690) from the house of Karnitte (widow twice, 1st one from Daser, 2nd from Lieutenant Colonel Ernst Friedrich Finck von Finckenstein (1680-1727)). The couple remained without children.
