The Khan Yunis Governorate ( Arabic محافظة خان يونس, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Ḫān Yūnis ) is an administrative district of the Palestinian Authority or the State of Palestine in the southern part of the Gaza Strip . The district city is the city of Chan Yunis . According to the Palestinian Central Statistical Office, the population of the governorate rose from 269,601 in mid-2005 to 341,393 in 2015.
The governorate has around 280,000 inhabitants. The area is 69.61 percent urban and 12.8 percent rural. The remaining 17.57 percent is claimed by the Chan Yunis refugee camp.
