The state road St 2222 and the district road WUG 20 cross the southern, the federal road 466 the western part of the forest area. The source of the Reutbach , which flows into the Brombach in the western forest area, lies within the Graefensteinberg Forest . There are several ponds in the forest area , including the Ödweiher . The Brombachmoor in the west has been designated as a nature reserve since 1983 . The Altmühlüberleiter , a canal built for water management purposes , crosses the forest from west to east, on a long section underground.

The forest belonged to the Rieter von Kornburg and Kalbensteinberg family until the Ansbach margraves bought it in 1766 . The forest area fell to Prussia in 1792 and became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 . The Graefensteinberg Forest is accessible to tourists through several hiking trails.
