County of Ligny
The lordship of Ligny and later County of Ligny was a fiefdom around the capital Ligny-en-Barrois . It was given to Agnes von Blois, daughter of Theobald IV of Blois ( House Blois ) and wife of Rainald II, Count von Bar . The property was passed on to the male descendants of the couple.
In 1240, the marriage of the Count of Luxembourg , Heinrich the Blonde , to Margarethe, daughter of Count Heinrich II. Von Bar , brought him the rule of Ligny. He bequeathed this rule to his younger son Walram in 1281 , who founded the French branch of the Luxembourgers .
The French King Charles V of France upgraded Ligny to a county in 1364 .
