Graham Mink (born May 21, 1979 in Stowe , Vermont ) is an American ice hockey player . Since the 2013/14 season he has played for the Dornbirner EC in the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League in the position of right winger .
Career
After Mink had finished his final year at Northfield Mount Hermon School in the 1997/98 season , he moved to the University of Vermont in the summer of 1998 . There he ran between 1998 and 2001 in three seasons for the university team in the ECAC Hockey of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He was only able to impress in his last season there, in which he scored 29 points in 32 games.
Since he had not noticed any franchise of the National Hockey League up to this point , he switched to the professional camp undrafted for the 2000/01 season when the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League signed him. Although he was used in 56 AHL games, but also had to play in the East Coast Hockey League for the Richmond Renegades , who cooperated with the Pirates team. Nevertheless, he impressed the scouts of the Washington Capitals , who also worked with Portland, so that they equipped him with an NHL contract at the end of the season. However, it was not until the end of the 2003/04 season before Mink came to his first two NHL appearances. Previously, he had only played in the AHL for Portland. Due to the lockout in the NHL in the 2004/05 season , the winger also spent the entire 2004/05 season in the American Hockey League.
For the 2005/06 season , the Washington Capitals changed the location of their farm team and henceforth worked with the Hershey Bears . Mink came back to three NHL missions that year, but was also out for a long time due to a groin injury that forced him to have an operation. Through the operation, he came to only 43 AHL appearances in the regular season, but this did not prevent him from leading the Bears in the playoffs with 21 points in as many games to win the Calder Cup after his return . Despite the success, Mink's contract was not renewed after the season and so took him in July 2006, the San Jose Sharks under contract. There he did not make the jump to the NHL squad, which he was sent to the Worcester Sharks in the AHL. As a leading player, he built on his performance in the previous playoffs and set personal bests in the categories of goals, assists and points. In the following season 2007/08 he was team captain of the Worcester Sharks, before he moved back to Washington after his contract expired in the summer of 2008.
In July 2011, he signed a one-year AHL contract with the Hershey Bears. After the contract expired, he moved to the Providence Bruins , where he was also on the ice for a year. Since the 2013/14 season, Mink has been storming for the Dornbirn EC in the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League .
