The Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis is an automobile race of the highest category in American Championship Car Racing . It will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway near Indianapolis , Indiana , United States . It first took place in 2014 in the IndyCar Series .
history
Since all the teams were already staying in Indianapolis in the run-up to the Indianapolis 500 , the IndyCar Series introduced an additional race on the track for the 2014 season , which was held right before the start of training for the Indianapolis 500. A street course variant was chosen so that for the first time there was an IndyCar race in Indianapolis that did not take place on the oval course. In contrast to the Indianapolis 500, the route was driven clockwise. Formula 1 also chose this direction of travel when it appeared at the US Grand Prix from 2000 to 2007.
The former Formula 1 circuit was modified as a route to create good overtaking opportunities. In contrast to Formula 1, all banked turns were omitted.
