Lend is the 4th district of Graz . It is located northwest of the city center, on the right bank of the Mur . In the north it extends to the Kalvarienberg, the Annenstraße forms its southern border, in the west it extends to the Alte Poststraße.
history
The northern part of the old Murvorstadt (that is the part of the old city that is on the right bank of the Mur) forms the center of the district. From the 17th century the main north-south connection ( Vienna- Graz- Triest or Laibach ) runs through Wiener Strasse and over Lendplatz . Among other things, this resulted in a brisk development in the area of accommodation providers. The Mühlgang , a small tributary of the Mur, which attracted many commercial businesses here, also dates from this time . There was a further upswing from 1844 when Annenstraße was built as the new Graz main train station. Numerous iron processing companies settled around the station. The district has long been considered a classic working class district. In the course of the Graz Capital of Culture 2003 and the construction of the Kunsthaus Graz, an urban scene developed around Lendplatz, which is the heart of this district, and Mariahilferplatz. These developments, which can be described as gentrification , are also viewed critically.

- In the west of the district is the Graz main train station , which is the central hub for public transport. From here the railway lines are distributed to the north ( Bruck an der Mur , Vienna , Linz , Salzburg and also Villach ), east (to the Aspangbahn ), south ( state border , Marburg , Laibach ) and to western Styria ( Voitsberg , Deutschlandsberg ). A number of tram and bus lines have their starting point at the forecourt (see also Graz ).
- The main thoroughfare from north to south used to lead over Wiener Strasse and Lendplatz; today it has shifted further west to the station belt. But also on Lendplatz there is still a small bus station for the regional bus routes to western Styria. The GVB bus lines 40 and 67 (from north to south) and lines 58 and 63 (from east to west) also intersect there .
- Since the completion of the underground route on the B 67b (trench belt) there has been a connection to Grabenstrasse in the east (Geidorf district)

The southern part of the district towards the city center is part of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Graz - Historic Center and Eggenberg Castle .

- Orpheum : Small theater stage that was built by the city administration in 1899 to compensate for the opera built on the left side of the Mur. Today it is mainly used as a stage for cabaret, concerts and children's theater.
