Relationships that don't exist

The artist couple is perhaps best known for their miniatures called " Relationships Do Not Exist ". It is a group of sculptures that is one of the largest series in the work of Gregory Maass & Nayoungim. "Relationships That Don't Exist" are iconic works, of philosophical acumen and visual humor. The title comes from the saying of the famous French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan "sexual relationships that do not exist" (in the original "Il n'y a pas de rapport sexuel"). From a large pool of toy figures from the 1950s to the present day, a selection is read out and dismembered in complicated processes and then put together to form new figures, painted and placed on bases from former sports trophies. Gregory Maass & Nayoungim call this process an adaptation method: "First we cannibalize the figures, and then we frankensteins them."

The early worm catches the bird

(Original title: The Early Worm Catches The Bird ) was an exhibition by the duo that dealt with the various forms of success in art. "In the summer of 1968 Worm made his first and only vinyl recording, called Early Worm in the attic of Megson's parents in Solihull. It was pressed as a vinyl record by Deroy Sound Services in Manchester in November. Only one copy was produced. A second album "Catching the Bird, was recorded but never pressed."
