The Großarler Ache , also known as Großarlbach , is a flowing body of water in the Pongau , Salzburg region . It rises at an altitude of about 2100 meters on the Keeskogel ( 2884  m above sea level , Ankogel group ). It then flows in a northerly direction, where after the Liechtenstein Gorge at St. Veit im Pongau it flows into the Salzach after 30.7 km .

The stream flows from its headwaters in a west-north-westerly direction and receives several nameless tributaries from both sides, before after about 3 km under the road 109, which runs from then on to the mouth in the valley of the Grossarler Ache. Now the stream is moving in a generally northward direction of flow. After a few kilometers, the direction of flow changes further west and the stream flows through the Liechtenstein Gorge. At its end, the stream runs almost westwards to its confluence with the Salzach, a few hundred meters south of Plankenau Castle .

In Grossarl, the Ellmaubach flows into the Grossarler Ache from the right .

The water has the water quality class  I-II.

The Hüttschlager valley ends are designated as a landscape protection area.
