The Großkehbach flows in the Murrhardt suburb of the small town of Murrhardt in the Rems-Murr district in northern Baden-Württemberg and flows into the upper Murr from the left in the town itself after a good 3 km long, approximately north-northeastern run .

geography

course

The Großkehbach , also simply called Kehbach , arises on the north slope of the wooded, at the summit 539.2  m above sea level. NN high Hoblersberg at about 518  m above sea level. NN . At the beginning it moves northwest in an eighth-circle arc to the right, on which it passes through two tiny forest ponds and then at the end northwards into the open corridor. In this gallery it flows between the hamlets of Schwammhof on the right and - a little further on - Waltersberg on the left, which stand on small hills. After crossing the little road that connects the hamlets, after walking less than 400 meters into the corridor, it cuts into a steep blade again filled with forest , with which it swings to the northeast.

Soon the corridor opens again on the left side of the stream, the hamlet of Eulenhöfle begins here with its first houses and lies on both sides of the course. Then both slopes of the widening valley are cleared of forest and the stream flows next to Gartenstrasse, which follows a row of houses on both sides, now steadily northeast to the valley. At the junction of the Kirchhain from Gartenstraße, via which the K 1807 continues in the lower part of Gartenstraße, connects Waltersberg with the city center, the short connecting ditch with the Feuersee in the Murrhardter Stadtpark opens from the left, which is between the remaining buildings of the former Murrhardt Monastery in the east and the cemetery at the Walterichskirche is dammed in the west in a basin running north to the Murr by an earth dam on the north side.

The Großkehbach continues to flow northeast and initially further open behind the right row of houses on Gartenstrasse. A hundred meters further on, along with the crossing Franzenklingenweg, it takes in its only significant tributary, the Kleinkehbach, from the south-south-west, which comes through the Franzenklinge , which remains free of settlements for longer than the Großkehbach-Klinge. From the crossing under Riesbergstrasse, the Großkehbach flows underground and then soon crosses Landesstrasse 1066 , where it changes from Fornsbacher Strasse to Theodor-Heuss-Strasse. This he follows for another 200 meters to the north. Then the Großkehbach flows after a run of 3.2 km with an average bed gradient of about 72 ‰ to about 287  m above sea level. NN and thus about 231 meters below its origin from the left into the upper Murr .

Catchment area

The Großkehbach has a catchment area of about 2.8 km², which is mainly in the sub-area Murrhardter Wald of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains natural area and with its northernmost part in the sub-area Murrtal . The whole area is part of the suburb of the central city of Murrhardt . Its highest point is at the summit of 539.2  m above sea level. NN high Hoblersberg in the very south above the origin. From here on, the catchment area of the next larger Murr tributary, Hörschbach, borders on the left, southwestern and western watershed, almost to the spur tip of the Waltersberg above the Walterichkirche, then briefly that of a small and anonymous city stream and finally the flowing Murr itself.

From Hoblersberg along the eastern border there is a long area outside in the southeast, which drains to the uppermost Murr in front of your knee near Fornsbach , then behind the northern spur of the Rißberg with the Riesberg tower a small stream runs through the wood blade, the drain on the outside of this watershed to the Murr a little above the Großkehbach tributary.

The whole area is part of the suburb of the central city of Murrhardt , the districts and settlement areas on the river and in the catchment area have already been mentioned in the course section.

Origin of the Großkehbach at about 518  m above sea level. NN on the northern slope of the Hoblersberg ( 539.2  m above sea level ). The stream initially runs north-west in a half-kilometer-long eighth curve to the right, until it emerges northward out of the forest.

  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgFlows through to approx. 485 and approx. 475  m above sea level. NN two tiny forest ponds.
  • (Connection with the Feuersee), from the left and north to below 300  m above sea level. NN in Murrhardt at the junction of the Kirchhain from Gartenstrasse, 0.2 km and less than 0.1 km².
    • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgDrains the lake of fire in the city park between the remaining buildings of the former Murrhardt monastery in the east and the cemetery at the Walterichskirche in the west, which is dammed in a natural, north-facing hollow in front of the city wall by an earth dam in the north, about 0.6 ha.
  • Kleinkehbach , less than a hundred meters after the previous one from the right and south-southwest to less than 300  m above sea level. NN opposite the rear of the building at Gartenstrasse 43 in Murrhardt, 1.7 km and approx. 1.0 km². Arises at about 492  m above sea level. NN in the forest on the northwest slope between Hoblersberg and its northeastern continuation Rißberg.

The mouth of the Großkehbach from the left and, last of all, south-southeast at approx. 287  m above sea level. NN opposite the house Theodor-Heuss-Strasse No. 24 in the upper Murr . The stream here is 3.2 km long and has a catchment area of around 2.8 km².

geology

In the catchment area of the Großkehbach there are rocks from the Mittelkeuper everywhere . The majority of the plateaus including the heights ( Hoblersberg , Rissberg) are located in the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ). In the blade incisions and on the steep slopes into the Murrtal, the layers underneath follow very quickly down to the gypsum keuper ( grave field formation ). In the edge of the Großkehbach there will soon be rocks from Quaternary landslides, also close to the last change in direction of the creek on the L 1066, which finally flows into a wide strip of floodplain sediment next to the Murr.

An abandoned sandstone quarry near Waltersberg, which opens up the Stubensandstein, as well as the Franzensklinge of the Kleinkehbach, in which there are outcrops from the silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ) down to the Gipskeuper, are geotopes.

Nature and protected areas

In terms of landscape, four different parts of the catchment area can be distinguished. The headwaters of the Großkehbach on the Hoblersberg and the adjacent to the east of the Kleinkehbach on the Rißberg and the spur of the Rißberg towards the Murrtal are completely forested. The clearing islands connected to the Großkehbach run from Waltersberg west and the Schwemmhof east of the brook at an altitude of a little below 490 to a little over 450  m above sea level. NN are occupied by fields and meadows. The two creek blades, in which there is a steep hillside forest, as well as the wooded spur waste of the Waltersberg in the west, the Schwammberg between the Talklingen and the Riesberg or Rissberg in the east, start below. The slope runs even deeper, often made up of fruit trees and small trees, and then merges into the Murrhardt settlement area - earlier on the Großkehbach and only last on the Kleinkehbach.

The entire catchment area is part of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park , the southern parts (forest slopes south of Schwammhof, only small parts of the mountain clearing islands) and part of the upper Riesberg-Sporn belong to the Murrhardter Wald nature reserve . Natural monuments are an abandoned parlor sand quarry near Waltersberg and a piece of the Franzenklinge valley floor , which is also a geotope.
