Grumbach is a district of the city of Schmalkalden in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia .

location

Grumbach is about five kilometers south of the core town of Schmalkalden. The place is surrounded by valley meadows, forests and mountains. When it is quiet , the local road to Grumbach branches off from Landesstraße 1118 to the south.

history

The former village was first mentioned between 802 and 817. The community only assumes 1285. The origin of the settlement were two farms ( Obergrumbach and Untergrumbach ). Untergrumbach then fell wildly . The place belonged to the office of Schmalkalden of the Hessian rule Schmalkalden . In 1769 48 people were engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

Up until the fall of the Berlin Wall , agriculture was the dominant industry in the village. Today it is a roofing company. In 2012 230 people lived in the district.

In 1830, the farmers planted cherries on the land, which is mainly suitable for cherry cultivation. That was the origin of the cherry fair in the cherry season, which is traditionally still celebrated today.
