Aue ( pronunciation ? / I ) is a district of the city of Schmalkalden in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. Audio file / audio sample

The district of Aue is located at the western end of the city of Schmalkalden, which is located in the 500 meter wide, densely populated valley in the Schmalkaldeaue at 284 meters above sea level. In terms of traffic, the city is connected via the state roads 1026 and 1118 as well as the federal road 19 .

history

Aue near Schmalkalden was first mentioned in a document in the Veßra monastery on January 18, 1333. The place belonged to the office of Schmalkalden of the Hessian rule Schmalkalden .

In 1597 a woman - Catharina Peternell - was convicted in a witch trial and burned.

In the documents of the former municipality, several later documentary evidence about the development in the village is given. Using the example of selected data, it is possible to provide information about social development. 40 people lived in the village in 1585, 432 in 1827, 836 in 1936 and 804 in 2012. On January 1, 1957, Aue was detached from the community of Mittelschmalkalden , to which it had belonged since July 1, 1950, and reclassified to Schmalkalden.
