Näherstille is a district of the city of Schmalkalden in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia with around 1000 inhabitants. The name comes from the river Stille , among other things , which has only a slight gradient here and into which the Asbach, which also flows through the village, flows.

history

Closer silence was first mentioned in a document in 1333 under the name Nydern Stylla in the Henneberger Urbarium . Later the place is also called Nidern Stilla (1345) and Nehirn Stilla (1360).

The place with two monasteries (Kapitelhof and Mönchshof) belonged alternately to the offices of Schmalkalden and Hallenberg . A union took place in 1791 and from that time both parts belonged together to the office of Schmalkalden, especially since it had belonged to the Schmalkalden parish since 1747. During the Napoleonic period, Näherstille belonged to the canton of Floh in 1807 and returned to the original office in 1813, under whose district administration it then remained from 1821. On January 1, 1978, Näherstille was incorporated as a new district after Schmalkalden.

Worth seeing

  • The Kapitelhof, which is no longer preserved in its former construction, was a half-timbered building from the 15th century. It is a listed building .
  • The outdoor swimming pool in closer silence is not only visited by residents of the district.
