Volkers is a district of the city of Schmalkalden in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia .

location

Volkers is located southwest of the city center in the mountainous terrain, rich in forests and grasslands. Residents and guests can reach state road 1026 via local roads . The elongated settlement lies in a deeply cut valley of the red sandstone . The valley flows into the Schmalkaldetal between the districts of Aue and Haindorf .

history

The village was first registered in a document in 1057. This village was also subject to constantly changing political conditions.

Volkers was initially pledged by Count von Henneberg to Wetzel von Stein, and Wolfram Schrimpf promised in 1320 to redeem the pledge. Then Wolfram Schrimpf received this half of the village from the Lord von Frankenstein as a fief in 1323 . Volkers sold this to the Counts of Henneberg in 1325.

Volkers was parish in Schmalkalden in 1585 and in 1619 belonged to the Hessian office of Schmalkalden . 1807 belonging to the canton and the justice district of Schmalkalden , Volkers came back to the office of Schmalkalden in 1813. From 1821 the place was subordinate to the district administration and the regional court district Schmalkalden .

The increase in population from 62 in 1883 to 152 in 1957 shows the stable economic situation in the village. In 1961 Volkers was incorporated into the city of Schmalkalden. In 2012, 147 people lived in the district.
