Möckers is a district of the town of Schmalkalden in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia .

location

The district of Möckers lies between 310 and 360 meters above sea level southwest of the city center and south of Mittelschmalkalden . The Möckersbach flows through the village in a deeply cut valley. The traffic situation of the district to the city is favorable.

history

Möckers was first mentioned in a document on February 1, 1312.

In 1312 the village was called Oeckers and in 1340 Meckers (= Ottokar's farm). It formerly belonged to the Hesse-Henneberg district of Schmalkalden and only came to the Wasungen office in 1583 during the dispute between the county of Henneberg and the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel . The jurisdiction was exercised until 1619 by the Schmalkalden district.

The small hallway consisted of six heirs (hooves). Agriculture in the cropped corridor was not very productive, which is why Möckers developed more and more into a residential community for the Schmalkalder industry from the beginning of the 20th century. At first there was about 2/3 forestry and 1/3 agriculture.

On the western slope of the valley there is a church with a roof turret. Opposite it on the eastern slope is the school built in 1905. Today there is an inn, a butcher, the village bakery, a painting and cleaning company, an electrical installation company and a heating and plumbing company. You determine the economy and the structure in Möckers.

A men's choir has existed in Möckers since 1902, a sports club and the volunteer fire brigade since 1952.
