Guadalupe is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Guadalupe is the central place of the canton of Guadalupe in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Atocha in the province of Sur Chichas . The municipality is located at an altitude of 3605  m on the left bank of the Río Caiti , about fifteen kilometers south-east of Cerro Chorolque , a 5552  m high mountain rich in ore deposits of tin , bismuth , silver , gold and copper and caused by the mine " Chorolque "is exploited from different sides.

Guadalupe is located on the Bolivian Altiplano in the northern foothills of the Andean mountain range of the Cordillera de Lípez . The climate of the region is arid and has a clear time-of-day climate, in which the daily temperature fluctuations are greater than the temperature fluctuations over the course of the year.

The mean annual temperature in the region is 11 ° C (see climate diagram Atocha), with a monthly average of 6 to 7 ° C in June / July and 13-14 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is a low 200 mm, with the months April to October being almost free of precipitation. Significant precipitation falls only from November to March, with a maximum of around 50 mm monthly precipitation in January.

Guadalupe is located 353 kilometers by road south of Potosí , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Potosí the trunk road Ruta 5 leads in a south-westerly direction 208 kilometers to Uyuni , from there the Ruta 21 for a further 96 kilometers to Atocha . Four kilometers south of Atocha, a dirt road branches off in an easterly direction, whose end point after 26 kilometers is the mining town of Santa Bárbara (4774 m) and the Cerro Chorolque. Five kilometers before Santa Bárbara and 400 m lower, a small country road branches off to the southeast, follows the course of the Río Caiti over long stretches and reaches Guadalupe after 24 kilometers .
